Discover Low Maintenance Composite Decking

More and more, consumers are turning to composite materials for an attractive, low maintenance deck. Composite deck materials are environmentally friendly, made from recycled plastics and a fibre filler. Composites are also termite resistant, which is critical in areas where these pests are a problem.

Traditional wood decks look great, but you have to refinish or reseal them every few years to keep them looking that way. Low maintenance, composite decks now have much of the same look and feel of wood, but without the worry that they'll crack, peel or warp, and they provide a better non-slip surface.

No requirement to seal or stain

  • Won't crack, peel or warp
  • Less slippery than wood when wet

  • Easy to maintain; just wash with soap and water
  • Lasts longer than wood
  • Comes in a variety of colours and textures
  • Matches your house decor

There are three main types of low-maintenance deck products:

Composite deck products are produced by combining recycled plastics with recycled or waste wood, thus saving trees and reducing landfill requirements. Some manufacturers use rice hulls as a filler instead of wood fibre. Capped composite decks are also constructed with recycled plastics and wood, but also include a plastic cap on the outside of the composite deck boards. This cap makes the deck boards easier to keep clean, and prevents the growth of mould on the surface of the deck boards.

PVC decks use only plastic ingredients, with no wood filler. This increases the cost of the products, but allows manufacturers to add colour streaks, and to use colour combinations which make the man-made products look more like real wood. PVC decks come in a myriad of colour and texture combinations.
