Richmond Deck Spotlight: Low-Maintenance, Stylish, and Private Hot Tub Deck
Our latest project in Richmond, BC, gave an old cedar deck a fresh new life — complete with a beautiful, functional privacy screen for a cozy space to relax in the hot tub.
The original wooden deck and privacy screen had seen better days. Built by the homeowner, the cedar deck was starting to show its age, and the privacy screen wasn’t doing much for aesthetics or function. The client wanted a low-maintenance solution that could withstand Richmond’s wet climate while providing a safe, relaxing space around their hot tub.
Choosing the Right Materials and Colours
The deck and steps were resurfaced using Eva-Last Infinity decking in Caribbean Coral, trimmed in Concrete Grey. The darker trim adds a modern, updated look while the low-maintenance material ensures the deck will stand up to the wet West Coast weather for years to come.
For privacy, we installed a NeoLine privacy screen in Desert Sage, perfectly complementing the grey decking and the exterior house colour. The screen not only gives the hot tub area the seclusion the client wanted but also future-proofs privacy in case nearby trees are removed or neighbouring properties are redeveloped.
Creative Solutions for a Smooth Installation
We also designed a hatch in the deck to allow easy access to the hot tub from below. Some adjustments were needed to align the new deck boards with the existing substructure, and the privacy screen had to be modified to attach to the top of the deck rather than the side. The tight space under the eaves presented a challenge, which we were able to solve creatively.
The Final Result
This project is a great example of how thoughtful material choices, clever design solutions, and attention to detail can completely elevate an outdoor space.
The finished deck is not only low-maintenance and visually appealing, but it also provides the privacy, safety, and functionality the client wanted. The combination of Caribbean Coral decking, Concrete Grey trim, and Desert Sage privacy screen created a harmonious, inviting space perfect for relaxing in the hot tub.
The client was thrilled with the transformation — and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
